Overview

The Director of Security develops overall security strategy, policies and standards to ensure the physical safety of all visitors, employees and customers to the organization’s facilities and the security of property and assets, while aligning with business objectives and regulatory requirements, and supporting overall risk management and business continuity strategies. This includes oversight of multi-site retail operations and the company’s home office. This role establishes auditing and inspection protocols to assess, identify and mitigate any security vulnerabilities or gaps, conducts loss prevention and other forms of investigations, and has responsibility for crisis response and crossfunctional risk management. The role ensures the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of security policies, systems, and practices that protect people, assets, and reputation, while aligning with business objectives and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Enterprise Security Leadership: Lead and coordinate all security functions across 22+ retail locations and the organization’s home office, including physical security, supply chain security, threat intelligence, investigations (in partnership with Human Resources), and crisis response.
  • Policy & Governance: Develop, implement, and maintain enterprise-wide security policies, standards, and procedures. Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and insurance requirements. This includes protocol surrounding civil unrest, severe weather events (such as tornadoes or hurricanes occurring during open hours), robbery etc.
  • Incident Management: Oversee incident prevention, detection, response, and post-incident analysis. Lead or partner on investigations, including loss prevention and workplace safety incidents and coordinate with law enforcement and external partners as needed. Consults with internal team responsible for employee communication to ensure necessary flow of information.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with HR, IT, Facilities, Operations, Procurement, and other departments to ensure integrated risk management and business continuity.
  • Senior Leadership Advice and Reporting: Advise company leadership on security risks, strategies, and the status of any incidents. Prepare and present regular reports and recommendations to support informed decision-making and proactive risk management.
  • Vendor & Contract Management: Oversee relationships with contract security providers and consultants. Ensure coverage for absences and special events. Ensure behaviors of contract providers meets company expectations. Regularly evaluate vendor performance and compliance with company standards.
  • Continuous Improvement: Monitor emerging threats, trends, and best practices. Lead ongoing assessment and enhancement of security systems and protocols.
  • Training & Awareness: Oversee the delivery of security training and awareness programs for employees at all levels, utilizing materials that meet requirements of the business and all state laws. Ensures training materials are updated to reflect evolving threats and regulatory changes.
  • Budget & Resource Management: Manage security budgets, resource allocation, and cost controls.
  • Team & Leadership Development: Build, lead and manage a high-performing team. Responsible for the hiring, supervision, evaluation, and development of team members. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Criminal Justice, Security Management, or related field is required; advanced degree or certifications (e.g., CPP, PSP) preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in enterprise security leadership. Experience in multi-site security leadership is required; multi-site retail experience is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in physical security, investigations, and crisis management required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of risk assessment, regulatory compliance, and insurance requirements are required.
  • Prior experience serving as liaison with law enforcement is strongly preferred.
  • Experience leading and developing teams, including direct reports and influencing decisions across organizational levels and teams is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required; experience presenting to executive leadership strongly preferred
  • Experience in managing vendor relationships and contract security services required.

Work Environment

This role is an on-site part of the Home Office team. The primary environment for this role is an open office. Considerable business is conducted using the telephone videoconferencing and computer technology. This role is required to travel to stores and other off-site locations routinely, up to 40% of the time. Base Pay range for this role is $195,000 - $260,000 annually. Your placement in the range is determined through interviews, a review of experience, knowledge, skills, balanced pay with other team members and alignment with geographic market data.  Home office base pay ranges are based on the Denver market.  We target most new hire offers toward the lower end of the listed range, but more demonstrated experience, knowledge and skills may result in a higher starting rate. 

 

Beyond Base Pay: Home office positions are eligible for consideration for an annual bonus, based on total company performance.  Amounts vary by role and are based on a percentage of eligible earnings for the fiscal year.
